VERY BODY, A LIMINAL LANGUAGE, 2015
In the Summer of 2015 I was the Artist-in-Residence for The Wayfaring Band, which is not a "music" band but a band of travelers. They are a Colorado-based non-profit that takes adults with disabilities on road trips. The tagline / hashtag for the Wayfaring Band is #EVERYBODYIN- emphasizing their primary value of radical inclusivity.
Resident artist's get to travel with the band, all expenses paid for. In return, the resident artists are tasked with creating an "ode" to their travels.
For my ode, I photographed all of the band members signing out different phrases - "everybody in, everybody in between, very body, in everybody..." . I chose to play with the slippage between these words and phrases in response the Wayfaring Band's tagline but also out of my own fascination with liminal realities, emotions, experiences, and languages- all of which I found to be relevant in neuro-diverse communities like the Wayfaring Band.
